How does voice transcription work?

When you record a voice entry, the app uses AI-powered transcription through Google Gemini API to convert your speech to text with high accuracy. The AI also removes filler words like "um" and "uh" to clean up your entry. If AI transcription is unavailable, the app automatically falls back to Apple's on-device speech recognition.

How do I enable iCloud sync?

1. Go to Settings in the app
2. Toggle "iCloud Sync" on
3. Your entries will automatically sync across all your devices signed into the same Apple ID
4. Note: Your first sync may take a few moments

How do I export my journal?

1. Open the side menu (☰)
2. Tap "Export Journal"
3. Choose your format: Text, Markdown, or JSON
4. Use the iOS share sheet to save, email, or print your journal

The app won't transcribe my voice. What should I do?

First, check microphone permissions: Make sure you've granted microphone access in iOS Settings > One Sentence > Microphone.

Check your internet connection: AI transcription requires an internet connection. If you're offline, the app will automatically use on-device transcription.

Still not working? Try restarting the app or your device. Contact support if the issue persists.

Can I edit an entry after I've recorded it?

Yes! Tap on any journal entry to edit it. You can modify the text directly. Changes are saved automatically when you tap outside the entry or press the checkmark.

How do I delete an entry?

Long-press (tap and hold) on any entry, then select "Delete" from the menu. You'll be asked to confirm before deletion. Note: Deleted entries cannot be recovered.

I missed a day. Can I go back and add an entry?

Yes! Use the Calendar view to navigate to any past date. Tap on the date and add your entry. You can fill in missed days anytime.

How do I enable Face ID or Touch ID?

1. Go to Settings in the app
2. Toggle "Biometric Lock" on
3. You'll be prompted to authenticate with Face ID or Touch ID when opening the app

Is my data really private?

Absolutely. All your journal entries are stored locally on your device. If you enable iCloud sync, your data is encrypted and stored in your personal iCloud account—we never have access to it. Read our full Privacy Policy for details.

What iOS version do I need?

One Thought Journal requires iOS 16.0 or later. Make sure your device is updated to the latest iOS version for the best experience.

How much does the app cost?

The app is completely free to download and use. All features are included at no cost. There are no subscriptions, no in-app purchases, and no hidden costs.

Troubleshooting

The app is crashing or freezing.

1. Force quit the app and restart it
2. Restart your device
3. Make sure you're running the latest version of the app
4. If the issue persists, contact us at support@onesentence.app

My entries aren't syncing across devices.

1. Ensure iCloud sync is enabled on all devices
2. Check that you're signed into the same Apple ID on all devices
3. Verify you have available iCloud storage
4. Try toggling iCloud sync off and on again in Settings
5. Give it a few minutes—sync can take time depending on your connection

I can't find the Calendar or Search features.

These features are accessible from the side menu. Tap the ☰ icon in the top-left corner to open the menu and select Calendar or Search & Insights.
